von Essen hotels Acquire Seaham Hall Hotel and Serenity Spa and The Samling
Posted on 20/03/2008
Major Expansion in North of England
The sale of Seaham Hall and The Serenity Spa, and The Samling to von Essen hotels was concluded 19.03.08 for an undisclosed sum.
Seaham Hall is the leading luxury hotel and spa resort in Northern England, twenty minutes from Newcastle. Linked to the hotel by a magical underground walkway, The Serenity Spa, designed by Jocelyn Maxfield, has won a string of international awards and has become one of the UK’s top destination spas as voted by Best Spa for Style by The Sunday Times and Best UK Spa Destination by Conde Nast Traveller.
Seaham Hall was purchased in 1997 by Tom Maxfield, former Sales Director of Sage plc, and transformed from a derelict building into a luxury hotel. Seaham Hall is the only 5 star hotel in the North East and the acclaimed White Room restaurant is the only Michelin starred restaurant in the region.
The Samling is one of the top luxury hotels in the Lake District and a favourite of Tom Cruise and other A-list celebrities. The Samling nestles amongst woodlands and landscaped gardens and has one of the finest vistas in Cumbria. The house was built for its views some 200 years ago, and the... More About Samling timeless majesty of the scenery remains as magical as ever. The Samling combines the informality of a private house with profound comfort and thoughtful yet unobtrusive service. There are 11 suites divided between the house and adjacent buildings set into the hillside. All the rooms at The Samling are uniquely different with stunning views over Lake Windermere. Five are in the main house and six have been fashioned out of the original cottages.
von Essen’s expansion across England continues with the acquisition of The Samling, Seaham Hall Hotel and Serenity Spa which are highly desirable retreats set in ideal locations. This private collection of hotels now numbers 27 and includes notorious properties such as Cliveden in Berkshire and The Royal Crescent in Bath.
Andrew Davis, Chairman, von Essen hotels comments, ‘I am delighted with the acquisition of these two very special hotels, our first in 2008 which will complement our existing Collection and expand the reach of von Essen into Northern England. Seaham Hall and The Samling are real treasures and we look forward to sharing them with our customers in the years to come’
